Online Dating Communication: First Impressions and Relationship Development

This week’s edition I decided to speak about the theme of communication, online communication. It doesn’t matter weather is a first impression or a more deep relation, how you communicate is very important. Many of traditional rules apply for online communication too, but although this some aspects should be discussed. So…let’s start.
First impression is very important, especially on dating. Don’t ignore the impression you make on the first date or in other words the first time when your profile is seen. When you make your profile, you should think about what you would like your potential partner to know about you.
Be aware of the message that your profile sends; it should be the one that you really want to be sent. A very important and also decisive aspect of your profile in creating the first impression is the photo. So choose a suitable photo, one that shows your warm and friendly character. But in the same time you should be also natural, sincerely. The photo should not be misleading. Why? Why to create a false image? This won’t help us to find our long-term partner. If you lie from the beginning, this online dating won’t last long, the insincerely will be felt.
You should create a good first impression through your profile.
Remember that your profile is the first step in finding a suitable person. So, reading it you should fill the person. The profile should express the individuality, should be original and of course positive. Try not to be mediocre and negative in your profile. This for sure will increase your chance to receive more positive messages.
Be honest in emails and chats!
After you have made the first strong impression, you go to the next step of online dating: the real communication. So, in such a way you enter in a relationship with that other person. This is the phase in which you and your online match put the basic of your relation. Online dating is very advantageous, because you have the chance to know the other person without being distracted by physical appearance. But, the are strategies that can make or break a relation even before meeting the over person.
The most important rule in online communication is to be honest and open in your messages and also not to forget about the dating safety. It’s ok if you don’t want to reveal to much about yourself, but try not to lie about who you are. The lie will follow you in the relation and it won’t give you the possibility to enjoy. If your partner asks you information that you don’t want to tell, just say so, be honest with him or her. It is nothing wrong if you want to know the person better before discovering yourself. So, again the golden rule of online dating is “Honesty is the best policy”.
When is the time for the next step?
Through online communication you can find a great deal about someone, but if you want more, you should step at the next level. First: the phone call. A dating won’t last long if you keep it just on online conversations. Communication too long, without hearing the voice, or seeing each over, could create some confusions, or uncomfortably situations when you really meet. Remember, that online dating is just the chance to find someone suitable for a real dating. After you know each other online, you should meet to know if you could be a couple.
Online dating can be a great opportunity to meet someone. If you make a fine profile, if you communicate honest and open, and if you make the next step and meet your partner, you are most likely on the right way for a strong relationship. You never know!
